SLOAN STEM+Arts Inc. is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization created to increase the number of minority youth in STEM careers through early exposure, affordable programs, and relatable mentoring. The SLOAN STEM+Arts Educational Initiative was founded in 2018 and has since become a trusted and vital organization leading the way in the Houston area of Texas in STEM+Arts.
STEM+Arts Inc. programs include Enrichment STEM+Arts Summer Camp, STEM+Sports Events, Holiday Robotic & Tech Pop-Up, Arts programs (from paint to music), hands-on Audiovisual Arts program, SAT prep for high schoolers, Scholarships for programs, and graduating high school seniors going into STEM, youth leadership, and entrepreneurial development.
WHY IS STEM IMPORTANT?
African-Americans hold less than 9% of STEM jobs in the U.S.
African-Americans are under-exposed to STEM fields and are less likely to have a mentor who looks like them.
The lack of diversity in the fastest-growing industry with guaranteed fiscal sustainability leaves our children vulnerable.
